I can't eat very much garlic either (intolerance that started in my late 20's). When I do eat some, I have found "Beano" really helps, it isn't just for beans. FYI. ;)

Bagna Calda

We're making this for Turkey Day. Some of the family can't eat garlic, so we will make this, and stir it into OUR potatoes.

Bagna Calda

This recipe is from "The Stinking Cookbook," Copyright 1994 by Jerry Dal Bozzo. Reprinted with permission. "The Stinking Cookbook" is available from The Stinking Rose® Restaurant.

Serves 6

Bagna Calda is an Italian fondue. Great with fresh sourdough bread or veggies.

Henry's Hi Life, San Jose

Good BBQ! Great salmon! And a good pour.

Found this place while in San Jose, looking for some food before a Leonard Cohen show at HP Pavilion. Funky little bar and BBQ. Yum. great food, good vibe, not at all what you might expect in San Jose downtown.

Chop Bar, Oakland

They may be a different restaurant at dinnertime. I hope so. But the new Chop Bar on 4th Street in Oakland is a disappointment for breakfast. I've always liked that space, ground level in the dog-friendly 4th Street Lofts property. It's the same space that housed Cuckoo's Nest, and then briefly a lame forgettable Asian fusion restaurant. We had high hopes for Chop Bar. But on a recent breakfast visit . . .

- Weak tasteless cold coffee. They may have a "drip bar" but maybe they don't drink coffe… Continue

A letter to Tiki Tom's

Dear Tiki Tom's:

Hey there . . .

My wife and I have been to Tiki Tom's in Oakland three or four times before, and always enjoyed the place. Great location, good drinks, nice folks, good music, OK food, reasonably priced. We've been telling our friends about it.

But last night was the worst restaurant experience we've had in years. We ordered the ribeye, wife medium rare, myself medium. What we both got was nasty mealy shoe leather, "smothered" with burnt onion strings. Weird little paper thin… Continue

Chef Marc's Turkey Stuffing

One night recently during the final days before the election, a bunch of us were working late here at KGO. There's a little "kitchen" area outside the talk studios, and suddenly a big pan of stuffing appeared in that area.

"Chef Marc snuck in with a batch of stuffing!" somebody said in the hallway. Being a real radio person, I'm a fool for free food, so I grabbed a plateful. Yum! Delicious.

So last week I had lunch with Chef Marc Vogel,

About Me

Hi! I'm the Director of Digital Media for KGO Radio, and also the webmaster, editor, and sales manager for DiningAround.com. This website is owned by Gene Burns, and operated in partnership with KGO.

I 'm a veteran radio personality, with 30 years on the air in and around Northern California, New York, and Vermont. My resume also includes stints as a chef, wedding planner, hotel manager, handyman, B&B operator, guerrilla horticulturist, and radio programming consultant . . . and I've started and sold a few successful Internet businesses.

I got interested in Internet marketing and technology in the early 90's, and in recent years, I have built and managed several award-winning radio station websites. In a way I have the best of both worlds, staying in radio but doing Internet work that I love.

Hi Roger: I just wanted to let you know that there is a problem with one of the recipes for the Cookie Swap finalists. I listened to the program and came home to make the Truffle cookies. On the website for the Truffle cookies, it doesn't say what to do with the dry ingredients. Also, it doesn't say what to do with the 2nd cup of chocolate chips. It was one of the top 3 winning recipes, and the recipe is incomplete. Please help as I'd love to make these cookies for the holidays.

Thanks, I live in Texas, I think you can give us a lesson or two!
am a grilling fool. But I fake it . . . a lot of the meat I grill is smoked or slow cooked first. For example, brine overnight and air dry chicken so you will get crispier skin, then mix up a good rub, smoke for 3 hours at 225 on applewood, lightly oil and toss on hot grill, then lightly sauce it, heat and serve.

Thank you Roger for the welcome!
Today Gene mentioned a south african sauvignon blanc which I cannot find on your website neither in any store. I thought Gene mentioned "kmglobalwines.com" but that does not exist. What is the exact spelling of that south african white and where is it available?? Please advise. Thanks a bunch.
