Dining Around with Gene Burns - Saturdays, 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on KGO Radio, AM 810

About 20 years ago, Gene Burns talked about this recipe on his saturday radio show and put the recipe on his web site. Unfortunately, the recipe is no longer posted. It was the BEST BBQ Pulled Pork we ever tried. I no longer can find this recipe....does anyone have it? I would love to have this recipe.

I have some of the archived files from Gene's old site. I'll see if I can find it and repost.

If I remember I believe this recipe came from Fine Cooking and Gene raved about it.I hope this helps. Have you asked Gene about it?

I have not personally asked Gene, but posted my question on this site when it was first created. I remember listening (many years ago) to his show when he was talking about simmering this on his stove all day. I made it myself a week or so later and it was fabulous. Since then, I found a package called "Slow Cooker" for BBQ Pulled Pork and it is very good and similar to what Gene's recipe tasted like. I shall see if I can find it on Google using "Fine Cooking" in my search terms.
Thanks for your reply.

Gayle:
Do you remember about what year Gene gave the recipe? I keep my food magazines for ever so if you could give me an approximate year I will go back and see if I can find it. This will take some time for me to do this so if you don't mind a wait I'll be happy to try to find it. Another thing you might try is calling Fine Cooking, I subscribe to the magazine but they do not seem to publish an index at the end of the year that I have seen.

I know how you feel about loosing a recipe. There was a terrific recipe in the Examiner back in the 90's for Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. I made it once and loved it and somehow lost the recipe. The Examiner is no more but I have thought of contacting the Chronicle to see if they could cross reference since they were once owned by the same company, they used to have a column called something like You Asked For It that would help find these things, that might be another way for you try to find this one. I only see the Chronicle on line because I do not live in the Bay Area anymore so I'm not sure what their print food section looks like now.

It's so nice of you to be willing to look in your Fine Cooking magazines for the recipe but that would be too time consuming because I truly don't remember the year that I heard Gene talk about this recipe. I wish you luck in finding the Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll recipe.
Thanks again for trying to help me.

The Fine Cooking website has several pulled pork recipes. There is a Kansas-style recipe from 2000, which isn't quite 20 years ago. Magazines do sometimes "re-run" recipes, so it's worth a look. You may need a paid subscription to the website in order to see the full recipe.
